A form that works empty or filled

Most receipt templates assume you are filling them in on a screen. A counter operation often needs the opposite: a printed pad, completed by hand, one copy to the customer and one retained.

Turning on the blank printable form option changes how empty fields render. Instead of being omitted, they are drawn as ruled lines at the correct width for handwriting, so the printed page is a usable form rather than a document with gaps in it.

Printing a usable pad

Print at 100% scale rather than fit-to-page, or the ruled lines shift relative to the labels. Plain paper is fine; the form is designed to be legible without colour.

If you number the pad in advance, sequential numbering makes a missing receipt visible during reconciliation. If you number as you issue, keep the sequence unbroken across pads.

Counter sales and record keeping

The retained copy is the point of the exercise. A receipt given away with nothing kept behind is a courtesy to the customer but does nothing for your own records.

At the end of a trading day the retained copies should reconcile against the till. Where they do not, the gap is usually an unnumbered or unissued receipt rather than a cash discrepancy, which is exactly why the numbering matters.

Switching to the filled version

The same form fills in on screen with automatic line totals and a calculated grand total, which is the better option for anything invoiced rather than sold across a counter. Switching between blank and filled is a single toggle and does not lose anything you have typed.
